Many of us know about the chestnut tree, whose shiny chestnuts children love to play with in autumn. But not everyone knows that this plant has exceptional healing properties. Horse chestnut is a genus of deciduous trees and shrubs found in North America and mostly in the temperate part of the Northern Hemisphere.
It is a tall tree with a conical shape. In Bulgaria, as a wild species, it grows mainly in Stara Planina. From it, the seeds, leaves, flowers and bark of the younger branches and stems are used, which are widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic industry and folk medicine. The horse chestnut is different from the sweet (edible) chestnut in that it is considered an herb and is not eaten. As a remedy, it has both external and internal application.
